From this point forward

If we would take the time to think about all the mistakes and bad judgement we have practiced over the years, we’d find ourselves sitting in a corner curled up in the fetal position somewhere wasting away. How often do we beat ourselves up for past mistakes? There is a thin line between torturing ourselves with past thoughts and remembering hurtful things to help learn from these decisions we have made in the past. There have been times when I have literally had to pray old thoughts out of my head that tormented me. One of the mechanisms for getting over these obstacles is to make a strategic decision to either stay in the mess or move forward on purpose.

To move forward on purpose involves work. It’s easy to just sit in blame and shame and marinate in what is actually self-destruction. But there is power in moving forward. The first step involves a change of mindset. Your mind and way of thinking are what boosts your first step out of the mire. If you’ve been in that state for a while, you will have to begin to pray to have the desire to move forward. Sometimes, the adversary will trick you into believing that you don’t deserve to live a better life. That my friend is a lie. God desires for each of us to enjoy the life He has given us. Take the first step by deciding that you deserve better because God says so. Once you take the first step, keep the momentum going. Don’t slow down or you’ll find yourself turning back to that place of misery once again.

Guess what? YOU MESSED UP! Own it and sit in it. Once you’ve owned it, repent. Ask your Creator to forgive you and give you the strength and fortitude never to go back to whatever it was that you came out of. Forgive yourself and whoever may have hurt you if that’s the case. One thing is for sure and that is that you cannot allow the opinions of people and the dirty looks to cause you to recoil in your dark place. People will talk about and remind you of all the “bad” things that you have done in hopes that you would walk in shame once again. Do yourself a favor and let them live back there in your past. They may remember, but God remembers our sin no more when we repent and receive His forgiveness. Micah 7:19 reads, “He will turn again, he will have compassion upon us; he will subdue our iniquities; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.”

Come out of that shell and be the testimony that will bring God glory! You can’t afford to stay where you are. Get up and out of that place of defeat and receive your victory! It’s waiting on you right now! From this point onward, make your mark as a new creature with a new beginning. We should even make it a point to start over each and every day. Don’t be concerned with the thoughts of people. You have a story to tell and souls to encourage and don’t you let anyone or anything stop you. You’ve got this and He’s got you!
