WALTERBORO—MR. JOHN WITZEL WALTERS passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2020 at the Veterans Victory House in Walterboro. He was 75. 

Mr. Walters was born in Hartsville May 21, 1945 a son of the late Gary and Grace Bertone Walters. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force, having served in Thailand for several years during the Vietnam War. He spent his career as a pipe fitter, working throughout the South and Midwest. Mr. Walters enjoyed shooting, fishing, and was an avid fan of the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. An extremely intelligent man, he was known for his uncanny ability to remember facts and dates on any subject…but especially American History. 

He is survived by his children John Witzel Walters II (Sarah), Antonia Moore, and Owin Walters (Maribel). There are five grandchildren: John Witzel “Wit” Walters III, Tristan Walters, Mary Grace Walters, Zaine Moore, and Keenyn Moore. He leaves behind his first wife, the mother of his children, Frances Brown Walters. Mr. Walters has one great-grandchild, Lilliana Walters, as well as a sister Roseanne Kelly. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Barbara Fleckenstein Walters. 

Funeral services, with military honors, were held at the Beaufort National Cemetery on Thursday, October 29, 2020 at 1:00. Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home, 117 Paul Street in Walterboro is in charge of arrangements.
