Miss Hartsville announces date, seeks candidates

The Miss Hartsville Organization is looking for the next Miss Hartsville and Miss Hartsville Teen.

Winners will serve the community for the upcoming year and will represent the area at the 2022 Miss South Carolina and Miss South Carolina Teen competition.

This year’s Miss Hartsville competition will take place on Saturday, Jan. 8 at the Center Theater. Young women between the ages of 13-18 will compete for the Miss Teen title, and those between the ages of 19-26 will compete for the Miss title. Miss candidates must be at least 19 years of age by Dec. 31 of the year of the state competition, which is 2022. She must not be older than 26 years of age on Dec. 31 of 2022. She must fulfill one the following residency guidelines. She must reside in the state of competition, or be enrolled in and physically attending classes on a full-time basis at an accredited college or university in South Carolina or be employed on a full-time basis in the state in which she intends to compete. All candidates must be a citizen of the United States of America.

Teen candidates must have a social impact initiative platform they will advocate during their year of service. All candidates must be 13 years of age on the first day of the state competition in June of 2022, must not be older than 18 years of age on Dec. 31, 2022. She must fulfill one of the following residency requirements. She must reside in the state of competition, or be successfully enrolled in and physically attending classes on a full-time basis at an accredited public or private school, or home schooled within the state of South Carolina. All candidates must be a citizen of the United States of America.

Local titleholders have the opportunity to compete for hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarship assistance each year. The Miss South Carolina Scholarship Organization is the largest provider of scholarships to young women in the state. The current Miss South Carolina, Julia Herrin, received $66,000 in scholarships at the 2021 state competition.
