Girl Scout Cookies have arrived

If you’re familiar with Jewel’s Deluxe Restaurant on the Courthouse Square in Darlington, you’re aware of the message printed on the eatery’s front door: “No Soliciting … Unless You Sell Thin Mints.”

Translated, this means if you’re not a little girl selling yummy cookies, you’d best hit the bricks.

Yes, folks, it’s that time of the year again. Girl Scout Cookie season began on Saturday. Chances are you saw one of their tables set up somewhere in the community. From now until April, these young ladies will be selling joy in a box for a mere $5.

Every year, there is a sizeable contingent that waits with great anticipation to purchase and hurriedly open a box of Tagalongs, Samoas, Lemon-ups, Trefoils, Do-si-dos, S’mores, Toffee-tastic, Adventurefuls, or the aforementioned Thin Mints. We all have our favorites. Thin Mints seem to be the preference of most, but Samoas are tops on my list.

A new cookie is being added to the line-up this year - Raspberry Rally. Described as a sister cookie to Thin Mints, Raspberry Rally is “infused with raspberry flavor instead of mint and dipped in the same delicious chocolaty coating.” Raspberry Rally marks a first for the Girl Scouts: It will be the first cookie available only for online purchase and delivery, which the group says will help in “enhancing girls’ e-commerce.”

You can purchase Raspberry Rallys or any other Girl Scout Cookie online by downloading the digital cookie mobile app on your smartphone or by visiting

While it’s easy to focus on the yumminess, the Girl Scout Cookies Program teaches young girls about some valuable skills and lessons: goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills, and business ethics. Another big plus is that all of the net proceeds from Girl Scout Cookie sales are reinvested back into the local councils for activities and fund projects that will positively impact the community.

And since we are on the subject of cookies, did you know there is a new business that will be opening soon in Florence? Crumbl Cookies, the gourmet cookie chain will soon be opening a location on North Beltline Drive between Pizza Mio and Eggs Up Grill.

With more than 225 locations in 34 states, the bakery chain is known for its iconic pink to-go boxes and its rotating menu of cookies that changes weekly. Crumbl Cookies bills itself as the “nation’s fastest-growing gourmet cookie delivery and takeout company.” Among its best-selling cookies are Funfetti, Snickerdoodle, Coconut Lime, Oatmeal Chocolate Chip, Pumpkin Pie, Rocky Road and Classic Pink Sugar. If you’re interested in finding out more about the bakery and its offerings visit www.crumblcookies. com.
