Hartsville City Councilman Bobby McGee presented journalist Ardie Arvidson a proclamation naming Nov. 14, 2022 as “Ardie Arvidson Day” in Hartsville.

The proclamation was presented to Arvidson during a retirement celebration. Arvidson, who currently works as a journalist for The Hartsville Messenger and The Morning News of Florence, is retiring at the end of November. She is currently the longest serving female journalist in the state of South Carolina, having begun her career with The Hartsville Messenger in 1975.

The proclamation states that she “has been faithfully telling the stories of the people of Hartsville and always responded when someone had a story to tell. She has devotedly promoted Hartsville and its history throughout all her years of service.”

It concludes by stating, “the City of Hartsville and the entire Hartsville community wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Ardie for her dedication and wish her much happiness as she begins this exciting new chapter in her life.”

Arvidson plans to use her retirement to enjoy time with her husband, John, children and grandchildren.
