HARTSVILLE UNITED SOCCER LEAGUE (HUSL) Fall 2020 Season Results
The Hartsville United Soccer League (HUSL) recently wrapped up it’s Fall 2019 season. With the development of the players being a primary goal, we are proud to say that it was a very successful season. Participation rates continue to increase, even as field space has decreased over the years. The program had approximately 164 kids participate during the season, fielding 3 Travel League teams in 3 different age groups and 13 Recreational League teams in 3 different age groups.
In the Travel League, there were 3 different age groups, U-15, U-12, and U-10.
The U-15 Boys Travel team was sponsored by Tytt Budget and coached by Robbie Weeks with assistance from Bryan Laney. The team was comprised of players from 3 different years of birth with 3 from 2005, 9 from 2006, and 4 from 2007. The competition was stiff, especially with such a young team, however, this team played with immense heart and kept it close with almost all of the teams they played. They never gave up and showed high levels of sportsmanship and determination. Over the season, all of the players improved their tactical skills and learned to play in a much more competitive environment.
The U-12 Travel team was sponsored by Hartsville Medical Associates and coached by Jesus Vasquez, a teacher at Hartsville Middle School. These kids competed against 12 yr. olds with the majority of their team consisting of 10 and 11 year olds. Although they played against older kids they were very competitive and had their best season in 3 years. The kids made tremendous progress as it refers to understanding the beautiful game of soccer. The training focused on team defending and attacking. There significant improvement with this group and we look forward to seeing these kids take it up a notch in the spring 2020 season.
The U-10 Travel team was sponsored by Waddell and Reed, and coached by Zack Davis with assistance from Wil Atkinson. This group had a successful fall season. Despite it being their first season together and only having 8 players for a 7 versus 7 game format, the team won 2 games and was competitive with teams from all over the state. Highlights included a win over Clover in a 12-9 shootout and a 4-1 win over Sumter although they played the entire game a man down. The team is extremely talented, and it will be fun to see them continue to grow and develop together.
In the Recreational League, there were 3 different age groups,U12-14, U9-11, and U6-8.
The U12-14 group was our smallest division with only 3 teams this year. The first place team was sponsored by Tytt Budget and Waddell and Reed. HUSL is dedicated to teaching all levels of soccer in the Hartsville community. HUSL was started 6 years ago by Dr. Troy Alexander, Head Coach of the Men’s Varsity soccer team at Hartsville High School. The purpose of HUSL is twofold; first, to expose kids to the basic fundamentals of soccer and the fun it creates through our recreational league program, and second to provide the more advanced players with the opportunity to improve their skills and compete at higher levels. It is essential that the children learn to love the sport and have fun at the same time. We want them to learn good sportsmanship and the skills to succeed in this sport. Hartsville United Soccer League is proud to serve the Hartsville community and could not reach the number of kids we do without our great sponsors and volunteers throughout the season.
Tryouts for the Fall 2020 Travel Programwill be held in late April 2020. The tryouts for our recreational league program will be held in August of 2020 for the Fall 2020 season.
