Brenda Cranford School of Dance upcoming events

The Brenda Cranford School of Dance is now entering their 38th dance season and will hold their fall dance registration and open house on Aug. 13-16 and Aug. 20-23 from 2-7 p.m. at their studio located at 708/712 W. Carolina Ave.  The studio offers all aspects of dance education on both recreational, performance and competitive levels for all ages. All classes are taught by qualified and certified adult Instructors and offer convenient class times.

BCSD recently held their 37th annual Spring Dance Showcase in May at the Center Theater. The Spirit of BCSD award was presented to dancer Lara Wyatt and the annual dance scholarships of the year award were presented to Skylar Lowery and runner up to Crosland and Kate Morrison.

Upcoming events for the studio include hosting the 11th Annual SC Tap Intensive on August 18, which is open to all area tap dancers in the state. Tap classes are held during the day and the focus of the intensive is to share the knowledge and tap history of the art form.   “THE” Jazz Intensive will be held on August 27-30 and guest teachers will include Veronica Walker from United We Dance in Charleston, Nina Shulte from Carolina Dance Academy in Charlotte, Erika Hogan director of New Attitude Performing Arts of Rock Hill, and Ali Nelson, Head Spirit Coach at Coker College and the director of the BCSD Jazz Company teams. Dancers will train in correct jazz technique and the intensive is open to all area dancers. “THE” Ballet Intensive will be held August 20-23, and will be taught by American Ballet Certified Instructor Devin Jennings. Miss Jennings holds a Masters degree from NYU in dance education, trained with the Joffrey Ballet, and has performed professionally throughout the world. She is currently on staff at Coker College as well as head ballet mistress at BCSD. This intensive is also open to all area dancers.

BCSD is most excited to announce that the studio will again host The Nutcracker, presented by the Columbia City Ballet on Dec. 14 at the Center Theater. This is the fourth season the studio has been honored to help bring this professional ballet to Hartsville for our community to enjoy and to give our area dancers the opportunity to be a part of this beloved classic. Auditions will be held for the Hartsville performance on Sept. 21 and rehearsals will begin in November at the BCSD studio. There will only be one performance in Hartsville, but the Columbia City Ballet will be presenting their educational outreach performance of “Scrooge” to many Darlington County public and private school students Dec. 13-14 during the mornings. Brenda Cranford has stated this is most exciting because this will give so many area students the chance to attend a professional ballet that may not have the chance to attend a live performance elsewhere for various reasons. Along with the actual performance, teachers will be given a prior curriculum to take back to their classroom to educate the students on dance styles, history, physical fitness, music and theatre etiquette, stagecraft and literacy. “Scrooge” and The Nutcracker will be performed by current company dancers of the Columbia City Ballet.  Last season over 2,000 Darlington County students had the opportunity to see “Twas the Night Before”.  BCSD is honored to work closely with the CCB to bring these wonderful shows to Hartsville.

BCSD was recently voted “Best Dance Studio in the Pee Dee for 2018”.
